Elena Mouzalas

 

Elena Mouzalas is of Greek-Cypriot origin. She started to play the piano at the age of three and as a child prodigy she gave her first recital at the age of five. Two years later she obtained a laureate diploma from the International Competition of the “Jeunesses Musicales” in West Berlin.

Continuing her studies, she obtained first prize at the Panhellenic Piano Competition at the age of 17. A year later she received first prize from the Athens National Conservatory.

In 1975 she won second prize at the “Gian Battista Viotti” International Competition, in Italy.

She won first prize once again at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris in Pierre Sancan’s class and first prize in chamber music in Christian Larde’s class.

In 1977 she was laureate at the “Queen Sofia” International Competition in Madrid. She then continued her studies in Switzerland with Georgy Sebok.

Elena Mouzalas is considered to be one of the most talented pianists of her generation, and she has performed extensively in France, Belgium, Germany, USA, Austria, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary, Greece, Cyprus, Canada and Great Britain.

As a soloist she has appeared with different orchestras, such as Radio France Philharmonic, Brussels National Orchestra, as well as Toulouse and Romania Chamber Orchestras. She has appeared with the Bordeaux-Aquittaine, Cannes-Cote D’azur, Ilie de France Orchestra, Young Viennese, Collegium Academicum of Geneva, Athens State Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra, E.U. Young Philharmonic Orchestra and others. Most recently she made a highly acclaimed appearance as soloist with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Elena Mouzalas has presented numerous works by Greek composers in her recital programmes around the world, and she has made a gramophone record of “Greek Music”. She also recorded many of these works for radio and T.V. networks in Europe.

Critics have found Mouzalas to be a rare artist, with a fine musical temperament and flawless technique.
