Magic Herbs is to some the most enchanting song cycle ever written! You should read the poetry as you listen to the music. The prelude and first 3 of the 8 songs are available here to read (JPEG images of the piano score that you can download) and as MP3 files that you can listen to. There is a note by Tsalahouris & Maliaras in English and Greek .
Symphony No 1, the "Levendia" Symphony, is Kalomiris most popular work. Together with the Greek Dances by Skalkottas, this is the most popular piece of Greek "classical" music. Often frowned upon by critics for its loud youthful passion it is an unqualified success with the public wherever and whenever performed. Read Kalomiris' own note on his 1st Symphony, available in Greek and English. In Greek there is also a note on the historical context by Christos Tsenes and on the musical form by Nikos Christodoulou. Of general relevance are the "Important Dates in the Life of Kalomiris and of Greece" available only in English. There is also a brief biography of conductor Caridis in English and Greek.
